In Hindi cinema, the job of a lookalike is not just to look like the original, but also copy their mannerism and be experts at mimicry. They single- handedly fight lions, jump from one skyscraper to the other with ease or fight with the villain. These stunt doubles live in anonymity for years, while the stars garner all the praise. Similarly Body doubles are used for Heroines in case of Bold Scenes. In the film "7 Khoon Maaf"A particular scene required Priyanka to drop her top and expose her back. The audience was made to believe that they were ogling at PeeCee's bare back while in reality it was somebody else's.

In 1974 a film 5 Rifles produced and directed by I. S. Johar was released, the USP of that film was that the film stars Rajesh Khanna's look-alike Rakesh Khanna, Shashi Kapoor's look-alike Shahi Kapoor to encash the popularity of those stars that time,These duplicates were the lead actors of that film.

Another duplicate Kishore Bhanushali, who played Junior Dev Anand in Dil worked in many films because he did the mimicry of Dev Anand.

We all know that Pakeezah took over 14 years to complete, mainly because of the famously tumultuous relationship between Kamal and Meena Kumari. Her health was not well during the completion of the film. Her condition became so bad that during the filming of the grueling emotional mujraa Teer-e Nazar, Meena Kumari collapsed. A body double, none other than filmi vamp Padma Khanna, was recruited to replace her! Meena Kumari personally trained her for the scene, and the song was filmed with the majority of the dancing done with an opaque chunni hiding Padmas face!

Wahid Lala who was a son of stone quarry labourer He was the first in his family to make a career off daredevilry. He started in 1951, worked in seven Bimal Roy and nine Jugal Kishore productions, was Prans body double, and loved smashing cars more than Rohit Shetty does, he grins. My most dangerous stunt was in Chakkar Pe Chakkar [1977] a two-minute chase ending with my car flipping over 10 times.

Manjit Singh-Over three decades ago, Manjit Singh, who worked with action director Veeru Devgan father of Ajay Devgan, found himself at a unique advantage. He bore resemblance to Bollywood's biggest icon Amitabh Bachchan. And simply by virtue of this fact alone, Manjit become hot property in Hindi cinema.Manjit also did stunts for many other actors between 1975 to 2000 but his entire identity came from the fact that he was Amitabh's double. One interesting fact that his son Amrit now works as Abhishek Bachchan's double

Manjit Singh -the body Double of Amitabh Bachchan

Afzal Khan- a third generation stuntie, who has been a double for Salman Khan (Ek Tha Tiger, Jai Ho, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo) and Aamir Khan (PK). His grandfather, the late Fazal Khan, was a tall, strapping Pathan employed as a watchman at a south Bombay theatre in the 1950s, when he was cast opposite Dara Singh and Dharmendra in fight sequences. Later, his eldest brother Usman did stunts and acted as a double for Raj Kapoor in Dharam Karam (1975) and Mera Naam Joker (1970).He was also Rishis regular double from Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (1977) till 2015 film All is well.Usman performed stunts in womens clothing. For Mere Apne (1971), Usman, as Meena Kumari, was hit by a car. He also performed stunts for Sadhana and Reena Roy, in female dress.

Mansoor Khan-started his career when he was only 17 in 2007.With the support of his maternal uncles Nishant Khan and Sattar Ahmad, both veterans in this field, Mansoor began to train as a stunt. He received the MSAA card after a year and today, the 27-year-old is recognised as one of the best in the industry. With his gym-toned body and curly hair, he has boeen a double for Hrithik Rshan in Agneepath (2012), Bang Bang! (2014) and Mohenjo Daro.

Geeta Tandon -This 31 years old claims to be the only stuntwoman to have successfully attempted car chases. Most women dont like to perform stunts that involve long hours in the sun or getting dirty in the mud, she says. But I did it all. Recently, I did a car chase scene for Aishwarya Rais 'Jazbaa'. She has worked as a stunt double for many, including Parineeti Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone

Sanobar Pardiwala is Another Stuntwoman who has done some brilliant stunts for top actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.

Its very common in Bollywood that we copy a song from west or other country and use in our films..Nowadays we call it Inspiration. But there are many melodies which were composed by our Composers earlier and being taken as it is or a slight modification is adopted in later films.
I discovered few songs with pretty much the same tune, spread over more than half a century. The first tune composed by S D Burman for the song "Thandi Hawayein Lehra Ke Aayein" for film "Naujawan" in the year 1951.This Lata song a great hit among her immortal songs with the same tune or slight modification was tried in at least five songs in later films.one of them was Rahen Na Rahen Hum almost after 12 years in film "Mamta" released in the 1966.

Asha Bhosle, the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar was born on 8th September, 1933 in a Gomantak Marathi Brahmin family in Sangli, Maharashtra. She was the third among five siblings. Her father, Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar was a renowned classical singer and stage actor. Her first foray into Hindi film playback happened with the song Saawan Aaya from the film Chunariya with composer Hansraj Behl in 1948. When she was 16,
This talented singer can sing a ghazal and a peppy cabaret number with amazing levels of energy and style. Be it the romantic "Oh Mere Sona Re" or the sensuous "Aaiye Meherban" or the peppy "Kambakth Ishq", Asha Bhonsle can add life to any song. she has sung in almost all genres including film music, pop, bhajans, ghazals, traditional Indian classical music, qawwalis, folk songs, and Rabindra Sangeets.
Initially her songs were basically meant for the sidelined roles like vamps, cabaret numbers or C-grade movies but it was O P Nayyar who gave her real break with C I D in 1956.With O. P Nayyar, Asha gave out hits after hits like Aaiye Meherban, Deewana Hua Badal, Isharon Isharon Mein, Aao Huzur Tumko, Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri, etc.
S D Burman was the other Music Director who understood her versatility. She and S.D Burman created many hit soundtracks for movies like Kaala Pani, Kaala Bazaar, Insaan Jaag Utha, Lajwanti, Sujata and Teen Deviyaan.
Her collaboration with R.D Burman took her the peak of her career. The duo of Asha and R.D Burman produced hits after hits starting from Teesri Manzil in 1966.A popular song Jaane Jaa from the movie Jawaani Diwaani (1972) required her to switch from high pitch to low almost simultaneously which she did with utmost ease and perfection. The song, Dum Maro Dum from the movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna showed an entirely new side of her talent. The romantic Chura Liya Hai Tumne from the movie Yaadon Ki Baarat is hummed even today and is considered to be one of the most romantic songs of this century.
In the 90's, she experimented with peppy numbers and produced hits like Tanha Tanha, Yaire, Kambakth Ishq, Chori Pe Chori, with much younger music directors like A.R. Rahman, Anu Malik, and Sandeep Chowta.
She received the Dada SahebPhalke award in 2000. She was honoured with the Padma Vibushan Award by the Government of India in 2008. She won 8 Filmfare awards in the best Female Playback Singer Category in the years 1968, 1969, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, and 1979. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Filmfare in 2001. She has won 2 national Awards, in 1981 for the song Dil Cheez Kya hai from Umrao Jaan and in 1986 for Mera Kuchh Saman from the film Ijaazat. In this Blog I am posting her Award Winning Songs

When you talk of Dev Anand, music cannot be left behind. All his films had that in common - melodious songs that were joyous and boisterous, soft and romantic. The charismatic, evergreen star of Bollywood had as much of romance in his style as swagger in his mannerisms.I being the admirer of him explore the different moods (flirtatious to romantic, playful or sad ) of Dev Anand in his songs..A unique collection of Songs

In this musical journey of Dev Anand S D Burman played a key role. His melodies and Lyrics of Sahir Ludhianvi and face of Dev Anand created euphoria in the 1950s and 60s.It was always said that Kishore was Burmandas first choice for Dev Anand but Mohammad Rafi with S D Burman gave many immortal songs for Dev Anand. It is an established truth that Rafi had a peerless skill to twist his voice according to the Hero, so he did perfectly for Dev Anand also emerging Devs image more romantic. Burmanda once agreed that he tried Talat, Manna Dey and Hemant Kumar for Dev Anand, but Rafi was perfect match for Dev Anand.
if you look back to the Golden Era of Hindi film music, you will find that other music directors kept Kishore away & preferred Rafi for Dev Anand.
The begining of the journey started with Navketans first film "Afsar" in 1950.This film had two evergreen songs of Suraiya Man mor hua matwala and Nain diwane ek nahi mane. The year 1951 saw the release of Baazi. It was Navketan Films first hit film. This film gave Bollywood its all-time great director Guru Dutt. It was Guru Dutts directorial debut. Music was again composed by S.D.Burman. It had some hit songs of Geeta Dutt viz. "Suno gajar kya gaye, "Tadbeer se bigdi hui", "Aaj ki raat piya", "Tum bhi na bhulo balam" and a peppy number by Shamshaad Begum "Sharmaye kahe ghabraye kahe.
Dev Anands second movie with Guru Dutt was Jaal(1952). It was also a box-office hit. It marked the rise of a stylish superstar. Jaal featured a beautiful solo by Lata Mangeshkar Chori chori meri gaali ana hai bura. Other memorable melodies from this film were Yeh raat yeh chandani phir kahan, a solo by Hemant Kumar and a duet with the same mukhda by Hemant Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.
In the year 1954 came Taxi Driver,It had a comic song Chahe koi khush ho by Kishore Kumar and a tragic song Talat Mehmoods Jaye to jaye kahan.
Almost all films of Dev Anand are a treat for music lovers. All of them cannot be mentioned here. But Dev Anand will always be remembered for his style, his romantic image and the evergreen music from his films. In this blog I am taking songs of Dev Anand in different moods.
